#18 Star Wars

This week is the week of The Force Unleashed, and as much as I swear that I'll never be able to muster enthusiasm for anything Star Wars after the prequels and that god-awful Clone Wars movie-advertisement (new one, not Genndy's -- that was amazing), I find myself counting the days to Tuesday when I get to force-push stormtroopers through blast-doors and fling Tie-Fighters down onto platoons of rebel scum (soooooo many hyphens with Star Wars... gee whiz).

Thus the topic this week will be Star Wars.  Draw whatever you want.  And I'm going to do one of those "post damn you" guilt trip things again, because honestly anything you throw up here will be better than what's come out of Lucasfilm in the past 10 years.  Take back the night, kiddos.

I had to give it another go. I tried to see how many things I could draw from the original trilogy without looking up pictures. I can actually remember more than I can draw. Emily

Yay star wars! I feel like I can do better than this. My spaceship drawing ability has really dropped off since high school though! It's so sad! The more I look at this, the less I like it. Hrm - Emily

#17 Organ Grinders

That's all.

I wanted to color it but didn't have time. Where are the flying organs coming from? Who knows! - Emily

I've been drawing lots of lonely old men with pet monkeys since I posted this topic, but this one is way more fun.

V

Ok, here's one. I hate the scanner in the lab. It makes colors all wonky. I also put up some gangsters. I draw too many zombies for school to actually do that one any time soon.

#16 Gangsters

This one is easy for at least three of us, because Lauren, Carder, and I spent an afternoon the other day drawing a bunch of 'em and watching Flapjack. Have at it.

Two gangsters and a flapper. The gangster with the flapper was an afterthought. The first picture was destroyed by the scanner so I had to do some creative level adjustments. F that.
-Carder

I combined the last two topics. But my zombie is pretty spritely, I suppose.

Yeahh I'm just posting the ones I already drew, like Victor. So here's my gangster. And bonus policeman!
-Lauren.

I will post more if and when, but honestly I think it's desperate measures for desperate times in regards to the blog, so I'm just going to post these guys that I already drew.

#15 Zombies

Since no one seems to be able to do Indy, let's move on to a nice, generic yet open to creativity topic. Plus, everyone seems to be drawing zombies all the time anyways :P

Here is a zombie with a missing eye and no jawbone :P. I drew him a while ago and recently cleaned him up, but never posted him for some reason.
-Lauren

Take that group blog!!!!!!!!!!!

Hrm... Number What? 14!

I'm thinking some Lucasarts/film action this week. How's about either Indiana Jones or Monkey Island? Does anybody else want to weigh in, 'cause I could go either way.

-Victor

UPDATE: Alright you peoples -- vote's in (all two of you) and Monkey Island is toast. The topic shall be...

Indiana Jones & the (?)

Fill in the blank and draw your picture accordingly. Caveat: It is OK to use existing canonical (or not) subtitles if you just want to draw your favorite moment from a movie, extended universe, slash-fiction, or whatever

Well, the concept of trying to be witty and come up with something froze me up.

#13 BATMAN and Lauren

Holy blogger, Batman! This topic should be pretty self explanatory. If you don't know who Batman is, you're an idiot. And if you don't know who Lauren is, you're probably not posting on this blog. <-- apparently that was too harsh. The topic of the week, young animajors, is The Batman. The Caped Crusader. The Dark Knight. Also, Lauren. Both because I felt weird making the topic about me (Emily) and also because Batman and Lauren allllmost sounds like Batman and Robin. A little. Because they both end in an "nnn" sound. Have at it.

Heyyyy look at me, I'm catching up! I've never drawn Batman before, and this is probably the weirdest Batman drawing. Whose hand is that, God's? I have no idea. And I WOULD blame Shawn for the cute. But that would be a lie, considering I secretly (or not-so-secretly) like cute things, too.
-Lauren

This is Lauren doing what I can only assume is her daily pastime (making rainbows). And it's lineless! That was a weird thing to try. And then, here's a little Batman I doodled a few weeks ago. I scruffed it up because Batman's supposed to be all hard core and shit. -Shawn

PS: My birthday's on Saturday! Woo! 23!

Here's my batman drawing. I'm not really sure where the red idea came from but it's kinda cool. Enjoy ~ Bryan

Here we go. Batman and Cat Lauren. Sorry they're just crappy sketches. Drawing Batman requires too much energy from me, and Lauren was a moment of inspiration that kind of rips off Victor...only Lauren might actually be a furry. - Carder

I think my batman is a bit of a cop out. But whatever - I liked his expression.

So, a little background: Batman is like my drawing kryptonite. Fewer subjects bring out worse drawings for me than Batman. Seriously, I have sketchbooks full of bad Batman drawings, so just ignore Batman here, because I only put him in to satisfy the topic. The real action is in the Carrie Kelly / Lauren Blakely Robin. I like it.*

Here are some other doodles inspired by the topic too. One's kind of a study for the drawing above. The other's just a really peeved Lauren. She's probably had enough of my nonsense and is about to disembowel me with her hate-stare.*

Now I feel like I have to draw Andrew. To Andrew: I just haven't come up with any good ideas yet. -- Victor

*Sometimes I annoy myself. Luckily I can edit my self-deprecating drivel out of my posts whenever I see fit.

#12 Heavenly Bodies...and Andrew

Ok so after that midnight screening, this week's topic is Heavenly Bodies (or, 80s aerobics). Awesome.

Also the animation major to draw is Andrew since he leaves after this week and should see everyone's interpretation of him.

If you haven't posted your Alien, shame on you.

BTW - to the people who just recently started posting, we've been using italics for our captions. I'm easily confused and so that clarifies things. Thanks. Emily.

I hit two birds with one stone... I present Andrew as I imagine he would have looked if he were in the movie "Heavenly Bodies." I'll have my fully finished alien posted soon.
enjoy ~ Bryan

I was inspired by going to that photo booth place. I love sparkles. -Emily

So I didn't want to post this because there is literally nothing I like about it, but I won't be called a hypocrite. At least not yet. I can't draw today. I can't even play video games well today. Maybe I'll upload a better one later. Probably not. Andrew: I'll see if I can't bust out a likeness tomorrow, but if I don't, you always have the graduation one!

Here's some more aerobics action, folks.

Here are mine! Sorry they're not in color (aside from the color overlays). The first drawing is of Andrew proposing to Kristen Wiig (as Target lady). The engagement ring has the signature terrrrget circles on it.

Also, here's my aerobics woman, who is working up a sweat. Look at that vagine, it's a HUGE vagine!

And there you have it. I don't know if I am going to actually do an alien or not.
-Lauren

This is based on Andrew's facebook profile picture, which I find delightful. This was a little photoshop experimenting that got out of hand, but hey, it looks like Andrew! Woo! Andrew, if you cry, I'll have to punch you in the kidneys or whatever. Also, this is repayment for all the gas I probably owe you for driving me around. (Cosmic balance is restored!) -shawn

Soooo, I'm behind on the last post, so I decide to combine forces. Two 80's icons, the aerobics goddess and the Alien, collide in a horrific display. I do not want to be standing behind her at my next aerobics class. Heavenly body she is not.

And since I LOVE drawing them sexy ladies so much, here's an actual heavenly body. She's a perky one...

Consider that last one me. And, Emily. I've never seen a more accurate representation of me. Uncanny. Now where's everyone else's??

*Andrew

My shockingly accurate drawing of Andrew. Basically, I'm finding that I can't draw people I know. So I just draw their cloths and hair and hope for the best. I'll get to Heavenly Bodies soon - Emily

I suppose it's easier to add the pictures above the lead-in paragraph, eh? Anyhow, this is just an insurance policy, so that if I don't post anything more interesting or finished, I at least won't catch any flak from the Carder front. He loves to remind me of my rant a few months ago where I encouraged posting anything, even half-baked sketches and napkin doodles. So here you go:

#11ish CARDER

Everybody! Start watching the Aliens topic below! Warning: This isn't the new topic anymore! (But you can still post, it just won't have the hilarious Carder-has-no-idea aspect.) -Shawn

Thanks for all the help and the graduation pictures of us Carder! It's your turn - we made a stealth topic!

Here's my version of Carder. When I thought of how I would draw him this pose came into mind instantly...don't know why...it just did. Also...I put him in the hipster sweater that shawn loves oh-so much as well. I think the proportions might be a bit off on this one...and he kinda ended up exuding the aura of a Bishounen from some Yaoi manga (sorry Carder) hahaha...oh well.     ~Kyle

And just for fun...and cause I wanted to draw something chibi...here's Carder in chibi form as well. Don't ask me why he's holding up his finger...I don't know myself, my hand just drew it and I went with it...I like it though.  =P     ~Kyle

Honestly, I was just going to draw a picture of a duck and call it a day, but then I figured I should put in more effort. Here's my version of Carder. Enjoy!
- Bryan

All of these are so amazing, you guys. Drawing your friends retardedly is THE BEST!!
My version of Carder looks a little girly but that's okay. Not as much as Andrew's ;D. Thanks a lot, guys, you pressured me into wanting to do color too, so I did a rushed coloring job.
-Lauren

It's Carder....the World's Greatest Soccer Mom!!! Observe how well he multi-tasks. Man, I wish Carder was my soccer mom from the 90s.

In other news, these gel pens are fun! You guys should try them.

In OTHER other news: Carder, I wanna see my caricature!!

*Andrew

If only the others knew what I know...

P.S. Awesome likeness, Lauren.
*errrr... Shawn. What's up with the Lauren drawing? Believe it or not, that comment didn't sit well with me at all after I wrote it, so I've been neurotically checking back for somebody to correct me ever since. Wooo!!! By the by, Carder is playing video games on my couch right now and has no idea about any of this yet. Heh heh...

It's Shawn! Not Lauren. Damn, I should've signed my name earlier. -Shawn

This is a picture of Carder in my favorite Carder-hipster-sweater. I was thinking about adding a unicorn or some rainbows in the background to spice things up :D. -Shawn

Perhaps what he'll look like post-senior thesis? When I first drew him, it looked like the child of Lauren and Carder. -Emily

#10 Aliens (Like, the movie kind)

Okay, this week's topic was my idea, and it's Aliens. The kind from the Aliens films.

To explain this choice, I need to get on my soap box. Well okay first I wanted to do this because I watched Aliens and Alien 3 this week, and I've been aching to draw them but never had the motivation. That's not my speech. This is my speech:

I anticipate that this topic will be kind of unpopular for some reasons, but I thought I would choose this as a topic because the aliens are hard and scary. They're really intricate designs, and they're so far from what any of us ever draw that I don't think any of us are going to be totally comfortable with them. Maybe Victor's drawn them a few times. Anyway, I think part of the reason we should do this blog is to have topics that make us uncomfortable and push our boundaries. That's the only way we grow. The challenge is to take the topic and make it uniquely you, and that process helps with creativity. I know I'm definitely in a rut with my style, and I want to break out of it. Stuff like this is only going to help.

I've totally forgotten what else I had to say about this. Just trust me that I had a long-winded speech to type out and lovingly lecture you guys with. I'm going to step down now.

On a more positive note, Emily and I want to gather everyone and do that drawing exercise that we did in ideation where you take turns drawing the same character. Sound like a plan? Great. [Edit from Emily] I was actually talking about this game - http://www.thesentencegame.com/rules.php but I loved that game from Christine too. We could play TWO games!

And now I return you to this week's topic, Aliens. From the movies. With Sigourney Weaver.

So I finally saw Alien, and thus, was inspired to actually do this topic! The chest-bursting scene was probably one of the most cringe-worthy things I've ever witnessed in a movie. So what did I do? Draw it to make fun of it! Yeah! And I'm also on kind of a lineless drawing kick.
-Lauren

Okay, so I know I'm really late and it's not even really done yet, but I figure I better post something sooner than later... :/ maybe i'll post the finished version later. Please tell me what you guys think ~ Bryan

Hey everybody, guess who's here? I know I'm late to the party, but at least I showed up. I present to you my favorite stage of the Alien life cycle, and one of my worst nightmares:

Here's my Alien...and my first ever contribution to this blog (I'm gonna try to better about posting here).

Anyways...I actually had fun with this and thought it came out pretty nicely despite the fact that it isn't colored...but I am still lacking a tablet (which I hope to remedy soon) so sketches are all you guys are gonna get from me until then. Regardless, I didn't want to go all cartoony and decided to go for a more illustrative/graphic novel/conceptual art feel. I kinda got lazy with the detail on the tail but it has a nice feel to it, and I might have made up some of the carapace on the Alien's leg or elsewhere...but whatevs, it still works...I hope. ~Kyle

I didn't like my first one. So, here's another -Emily

This turned out way better than I figured it would. It's one big cheat to hide my inferior Alien, but I like it. This sure was hard. I drew Sigourney Weaver in there because I felt I should recognize that she has an underwear scene in every film. She's shaving her head because Alien 3 is the only one I've seen more than once. That's probably not good. -Carder

I dunno. I couldn't beat Shawn's for hilarity, that's for sure - I went the fanart direction. :P -Emily

I will never apologize for this. And Carduur's right, it's really hard to draw Aliens! But everyone should do it and be creative :D. I call this one "Pretty Lady" or the alternative, "The Princess is in the Other Castle." That unicorn is so damn pleased with itself. -Shawn
